Daniel Humberto Contreras Varas, a Global Missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries serving in Honduras, will be visiting the Northern Illinois Conference as part of his itineration from June 5–10.
Daniel serves as a mission program director with the United Methodist Mission in Honduras (Advance #3022778).
Missionary Daniel Contreras currently serves in Honduras in a multifaceted leadership role, overseeing several key areas of ministry that embody both compassion and practical care. He leads the mission’s health initiatives, including a clinic that served approximately 10,000 patients in the past year, providing critical care for migrants and vulnerable local communities facing conditions such as severe dehydration, malnutrition, and chronic illnesses. In addition, he manages a specialized clinic dedicated to offering essential healthcare services to migrants. Beyond healthcare, Daniel serves as a primary contact for the Juan Wesley School in Ciudad España, where at-risk youth receive secondary education that helps prevent gang involvement and opens pathways toward a more hopeful future. He also invests in the spiritual formation of the church by leading workshops and training sessions for local Honduran pastors, focusing on doctrine, discipleship, and church growth. “The calling to mission comes out of love for people,” Daniel shares. “Christ modeled a life of humble service among those who suffer most, and that example continues to guide my ministry.” Daniel and his wife, Karen, are committed to living out and modeling servant leadership alongside their two children.
